Kitamae-bune (Northern-bound ships)
Takashi Kitamura (Kutani porcelain artist)

The kitamae-bune (northern-bound ships) that sailed between the northern Japan and Osaka in the 19th century and early 20th century are depicted on the wagasa made with 97.666% gold. The gold lead used for the wagasa is the same kind as the highest rank gold leaf that was used to repair Kinkakuji Temple in Kyoto. The wagasa was made specially for the Homo Faber exhibition held on the island of San Girogio Maggiore in Venezia, Italy in 2022.
